The placenta plays a fundamental role in successful pregnancy. Complications caused by poor placental function have lifelong consequences. This project will develop physical models of placental vascular tissue to model changes to blood flow and perfusion caused by pathology or surgical intervention. Extensive medical imaging data from in vivo and post-delivery placentae will be used to simulate placental vascular structures for 3D physical modelling with an overall goal to create a working model of the placenta that can be used for flow modelling and surgical training.
